Errol Spence Jr. continues to be linked with a potential return to the ring after a long absence, and now a former world champion has publicly put his name forward. Following another win in his hometown, Tony Harrison called out Spence as a possible opponent for a comeback fight in a new weight division.
Spence has not fought since his first career defeat in July 2023, when he fell short in his bid to become undisputed welterweight champion against Terence Crawford. That loss ended his reign as a unified titleholder and was widely viewed as being compounded by difficulties making the 147-pound limit.
Since then, Spence has been rumored to consider campaigns at super-welterweight or middleweight. Those discussions gained fresh traction on Saturday night when Harrison, a former WBC super-welterweight champion, used his post-fight interview to suggest a showdown at 160 pounds.
Speaking after his second hometown victory of 2025, Harrison said he believes Spence is eager to return and framed the matchup as a meeting of equals from the same era. He described the fight as “champion versus champion” and emphasized that it would pit skill, toughness, and experience against one another, while promising an action fight for the fans.
Now 35, Spence has maintained that he will return only when the timing is right. Should that moment come soon, Harrison’s challenge positions him as a ready-made option for a comeback.
