This week, Floyd Mayweather Jr. squares off again in a rematch against John Gotti III on August 24 in Mexico City. The announcement of the fight came over a year after their first exhibition bout in June 2023, which ended in controversy when Gotti continued to throw punches after the fight was stopped in the sixth round, igniting a chaotic brawl both inside and outside the ring.

Gotti, the grandson of infamous New York mob boss John Gotti, expressed interest in a rematch shortly after the initial fight. During an interview with Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour”, Gotti hinted that the attention garnered from their post-fight melee might entice Mayweather to agree to a second encounter.

Mayweather, who has remained retired from professional boxing since his victory over UFC star Conor McGregor in 2017, has continued to participate in exhibition matches. The 47-year-old, who boasts an undefeated 50-0 record, initially teased a rematch with Gotti to coincide with Super Bowl LVIII week, though that plan never materialized.

Gotti, who began his combat sports career in MMA with a 5-1 record before transitioning to boxing, currently holds a 2-0 record as a professional boxer. The upcoming bout with Mayweather represents a significant opportunity for Gotti to further establish his name in the boxing world, though the exhibition nature of the fight ensures that Mayweather's perfect professional record remains untouched.
