Errol Spence Jr.’s comeback fight against Tim Tszyu is reportedly set to take place at 160lbs after a late request to increase the agreed weight.
The July 25 bout had originally been settled at a 158lb catchweight following disagreement between the two camps. Spence wanted to fight at middleweight, while Tszyu preferred the super welterweight limit.
Tszyu’s trainer, Jeff Fenech, said Spence’s team has now asked for the contest to be moved up another two pounds.
“They’re wanting to go up two pounds,” Fenech said. “They want the fight at 160.”
Tszyu is understood to have accepted the change. The Australian will have home support as Spence returns from nearly three years of inactivity following his 2023 loss to Terence Crawford.
Spence and undercard fighter Jermall Charlo are also reportedly dealing with administrative issues that could delay their arrival in Australia.
