Team Errol Spence Jr. is pushing for a significant move into the junior middleweight division, lobbying for Spence to be ranked by the WBO to set up a potential title fight with Sebastian Fundora. This development follows the WBO's recent statement that Spence was not yet ranked at 154 pounds, creating complications for a unification bout involving Fundora’s WBC and WBO titles.

During the WBO ratings committee meeting on October 31 in Puerto Rico, Phil Weiss of TGB Promotions advocated for Spence, emphasizing his career achievements despite his sole loss to Terence Crawford in July 2023. "He’s overcome injuries and his doubters, and he’s proven his worth to the sport," Weiss remarked, recalling Spence's return from a near-fatal car accident in 2019 as a testament to his grit.

Fundora, who secured the WBO and vacant WBC titles with a split decision over Tim Tszyu in March, would present a formidable opponent. Olivieri, the newly elected WBO president, expressed support for Spence’s potential ranking and match with Fundora, stating, "I like that fight, Fundora and Spence for the WBO and WBC championship."

A ruling from the WBO’s ratings committee is expected in the coming weeks, which could pave the way for Spence's return and a title fight.
