Teofimo Lopez’s next move is becoming clearer, with a potential unification bout against Richardson Hitchins emerging as a realistic option. After Jaron "Boots" Ennis declined a fight with Lopez to focus on unifying at welterweight, the path is open for Lopez to face Hitchins, the newly crowned IBF 140-lb champion.

Hitchins secured the title last Saturday with a split-decision win over Liam Paro at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Scores of 116-112, 116-112, and 117-111 reflected a strong showing by Hitchins. Therefore promoter Eddie Hearn sees the potential for a significant matchup, given that both Hitchins and Lopez hail from New York City and hold titles at junior welterweight.

"This is a fight that makes sense," said Chris Mannix. "It’s not the blockbuster matchup Lopez wants against names like Devin Haney or Ryan Garcia, but it’s a meaningful clash at 140. Teofimo brings the power and aggression, while Hitchins offers technical precision."

While Lopez remains the A-side in negotiations, Hitchins’ performance against Paro has earned him recognition as a credible challenger. A Lopez-Hitchins fight could land on ESPN or DAZN, with both promotional outfits capable of staging the event.
