Undefeated boxer Edgar Berlanga is not expecting a fast track to a bout with super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Although Berlanga recently joined Matchroom Boxing, which is closely associated with Alvarez, he acknowledges that he has to fight his way to the top.

Berlanga’s journey begins with an upcoming fight against Jason Quigley of Ireland. This bout, taking place on DAZN at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in NYC, will be Berlanga's first fight in over a year. The boxer, who has a 20-0 record, is committed to an impressive performance in this fight, hoping it could pave the way for a future match with Alvarez.

Following his last fight against Alexis Angulo, Berlanga faced a six-month suspension for an attempted bite, ending his relationship with Top Rank. He has since signed with Matchroom, whose chairman, Eddie Hearn, stated that Berlanga would need to deliver spectacular performances in his next few fights before a match with Alvarez could be considered.

As he prepares for his fight with Quigley, Berlanga is aware of the scrutiny he faces. With his eyes set on a potential bout with Alvarez, he said, “I think about it every night. I speak it into existence. Of course, we gotta handle business on June 24.”
