Paddy Donovan is looking to rebuild his world title push under the guidance of Andy Lee when he faces Karen Chukhadzhian in an IBF welterweight title eliminator today in Mannheim, Germany.

Donovan enters the fight after two painful setbacks against Lewis Crocker, both of which he believes were unjust. Now, the 27-year-old is focused on moving forward and earning another shot at a world title.

Lee’s gym has become a strong environment for Donovan, with names such as Hamzah Sheeraz, Ben Whittaker and Joseph Parker also working under the former WBO middleweight champion. “To be surrounded by such amazing athletes, some of the best athletes in the world, and trained by Andy is obviously a fantastic feeling,” Donovan said.

Donovan also takes inspiration from Lee’s own fighting career, especially his dramatic knockout wins over John Jackson and Matvey Korobov. He pointed to Lee’s ability to find a finish when he needed it most as proof of his heart and character.

“Sometimes it's not about looking good and getting the knockout,” Donovan said. “It’s about when you need a knockout, producing big knockouts. And I think Andy was a fighter that could do that.”

For Donovan, the goal is simple: win the eliminator, get back into title contention, and become world champion. Whether that means another fight with Crocker, a clash with Liam Paro, or whoever holds the belt, he says the priority is clear. “My main goal now is to be a world champion.”
