Don King Productions has filed a lawsuit in Broward County, Florida, against Ring Magazine, Sela, Michael Hunter and the WBA, alleging a coordinated effort to breach DKP’s exclusive promotional agreement with Hunter.
The dispute centers on a heavyweight bout between Hunter and Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller that was scheduled for September 11 in Las Vegas as part of the build-up to the September 13 clash between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford. Miller later announced the fight was off due to “legal and regulatory” reasons. DKP now claims the fight’s organization violated its contractual rights with Hunter and is seeking damages exceeding $50,000.
“Multiple players within boxing induced and colluded with each other to misrepresent the rights and contract between Don King and his fighter,” King attorney Alejandro Brito said. The complaint alleges that the WBA and several promoter defendants knowingly proceeded with organizing and marketing the event despite DKP’s exclusive promotional rights.
The lawsuit seeks preliminary and permanent injunctive relief to prevent further interference, as well as compensatory damages. It also alleges civil conspiracy involving the WBA, Sela, Ring Magazine, Bash Boxing, Reid Boxing and Epic Sports and Entertainment.
