Dillian Whyte is making a swift return to the boxing ring on March 17 in Ireland, following a cleared adverse drug test that previously halted a high-profile bout against Anthony Joshua. BoxingScene has confirmed that Whyte is slated to face the seasoned Christian Hammer in a headline event at the TF Royal Hotel & Theatre in Castlebar, Ireland, titled “Once Upon a Time in the West.”

Expressing his enthusiasm, Whyte shared his anticipation for his first fight in Ireland, a place he's dreamt of competing in, recalling the vibrant atmosphere and warm reception during a previous visit. With limited activity over the past four years, Whyte emphasized the necessity to ramp up his fight schedule, mentioning the success of active fighters like Joseph Parker and Anthony Joshua as motivation.

Buddy McGirt, Whyte’s trainer, stressed the importance of moving past the negativity surrounding Whyte’s layoff. Despite being 35, the former WBC Interim World Champion remains committed to reclaiming his position at the pinnacle of heavyweight boxing, with McGirt affirming Whyte's world champion potential as long as he maintains his focus and training regimen.

Whyte’s career faced a significant setback due to a drug test controversy, leading to an official investigation. The subsequent review exonerated Whyte, describing him as the victim of a contaminated supplement. Reflecting on the challenging period, Whyte expressed a mix of relief and frustration, particularly lamenting the missed opportunity to face Joshua.

As the heavyweight division enjoys a resurgence, Whyte’s return is timely, offering a plethora of intriguing matchups, including a potential participation in the Matchroom Boxing vs. Queensberry Boxing “5X5” tournament. Whyte looks forward to his comeback fight in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day, aiming to reignite his career and pursue the high-stake bouts that have eluded him.
