Former two-division champion Demetrius Andrade appears to be taking his boxing career to new, deeper waters. As per ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, Andrade is close to sealing a fight against David Benavidez, the current WBC interim titleholder. Andrade’s previous challenges to top fighters like Jaime Munguia, Gennadiy Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez, and Jermall Charlo have been met with silence. Frustrated by the lack of marquee matchups, Andrade transitioned to the super middleweight division, hoping for more significant bouts. His dominant win over Demond Nicholson marked his entry, but facing Benavidez might just elevate his status in the boxing world.

Benavidez, on the other hand, isn’t an opponent to be taken lightly. The 26-year-old recently secured a convincing victory over Caleb Plant and now has his sights set on Andrade, an undefeated former Olympian. The matchup between Andrade and Benavidez is generating buzz, with both fighters having consistently called out the renowned Canelo Alvarez in the past.

Alvarez himself is set for a significant showdown against Jermell Charlo on September 30th, staking all his super middleweight titles. While Alvarez remains focused on Charlo, the prospect of a Benavidez vs. Andrade clash intrigues him. When pressed for a prediction on this potential bout, Alvarez said that it’s evenly matched, dubbing it a “50/50” fight. The upcoming matchups promise exhilarating action for boxing aficionados, with the sport’s best talents colliding in the ring.
