British heavyweight veteran Dave Allen has confirmed he will return to the ring next month as he looks to rebuild after his October loss to Arslanbek Makhmudov. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 33-year-old revealed that he is close to finalising a bout with French journeyman Karim Berredjem, with the fight set to take place in Nottingham.
Allen earned renewed momentum last year when he knocked out Johnny Fisher in May, securing a deal with Matchroom Boxing and a homecoming headliner in Sheffield against Makhmudov. Despite a typically gutsy effort, Allen was outworked over the distance, losing a unanimous decision in front of a passionate local crowd.
Now preparing for a comeback appearance on the undercard of the Leigh Wood–Josh Warrington rematch at the Motorpoint Arena, Allen was candid about the level of opposition fans can expect. He acknowledged that Berredjem’s record may not excite everyone, but stressed that the bout is about getting rounds and regaining confidence rather than chasing immediate glory.
“A comeback fight for Tyson Fury is different to a comeback fight for me,” Allen explained, underlining the pragmatic approach he is taking at this stage of his career. He added that while Berredjem is no world-beater, he is “big and awkward” and capable of extending the fight, which is exactly what Allen wants as he eases back into contention.
Berredjem, now 39, has had limited activity in recent years, boxing just six rounds since 2023. However, he brings experience, having challenged unsuccessfully for the French heavyweight title on five occasions and sharing the ring with a wide range of domestic and international opponents.
