Chris Eubank’s (32-3, 23 KOs) promoter Kalle Sauerland is thinking of filing a complaint with the British Boxing Board of Control on the elbow Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20 KOs) allegedly delivered to the fighter's head in the fourth round, which resulted in the first knockdown.
In a slow-motion video of the fight, Eubank Jr. looks to get struck with a left elbow from Smith, raising his head and leaving him open to the devastating right and left elbows that put him on the ground. Eubank already has a clause in his contract that allows for a rematch, so he may push the fight without the BBBofC's approval.
“We are looking at it,” Kalle Sauerland told Sky Sports. “We obviously have that rematch clause, but we’ll let the dust settle. We’ve got a few weeks to activate that. We’ll take an internal discussion, see what the best way forward is for Chris and go from there.”
If Eubank’s team is merely trying to exploit this as a PR trick to explain his defeat to Smith, it won't work since the boxing community has already formed an opinion of him.
It’s clear, that Eubank Jr.’s career took a severe hit when he lost to a mediocre fighter like Smith, and now he's hoping to reverse that by making up news about being purportedly crushed by an elbow in the fourth round.
