Chris Eubank Jr has finally spoken publicly about the physical issues that plagued him throughout his rematch with Conor Benn, admitting that a series of health problems caught up with him long before he stepped into the ring in November. The 36-year-old, who looked far removed from the durable, sharp fighter fans have long known, endured a punishing 12-round defeat that sparked immediate concerns about his wellbeing and long-term future.
Eubank had already dealt with severe dehydration in their first fight, where he was forced to stay under a 170-pound rehydration limit. The same clause was imposed in last month’s rematch - and after two late knockdowns and a wide points loss, many believed the harsh weight cut was once again to blame. Eubank has now revealed there was more to the story, confirming he has been battling “a lot of health issues” over the past year that ultimately impacted his performance.
In a video posted to social media, Eubank showed himself undergoing medical treatment while offering a rare, candid explanation to fans. “I’ve been dealing with a lot of health issues over the last year and yeah, it all finally caught up to me last month,” he said. “I will not box again until I’m back to 100%. I don’t know when that will be, but… I will do everything in my power to make sure that one day, the old me makes a big comeback.”
While his future remains unclear, Eubank’s message suggests he is not ready to walk away, as after a decade-plus career marked by elite conditioning and iron durability, the Brighton standout now faces the biggest fight of his life outside the ring.
