Chris Billam-Smith and Richard Riakporhe have finalized terms for their much-anticipated rematch, set to take place in June, where they will vie for Billam-Smith’s WBO cruiserweight title. This rematch comes five years after Riakporhe handed Billam-Smith his only professional defeat via split decision. Both camps are now awaiting confirmation of a June date and venue to commence their focused preparations for this significant bout.

The fight’s specifics, including the venue and exact date, are being finalized in coordination with the broadcaster, Sky Sports. Ben Shalom of Boxxer hinted at the possibility of hosting the event at Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park, although a Bournemouth venue seems unlikely for this occasion. The match promises to be a monumental event, given its status as a world title rematch.

Billam-Smith, who secured the title from Lawrence Okolie in May 2023, successfully defended it against Mateusz Masternak in December. Meanwhile, Okolie has opted to move up to the heavyweight division, seeking new challenges after experiencing difficulties making the cruiserweight limit in recent fights. This move is aligned with his long-term ambition to compete at heavyweight, considering his stature and the physical toll of maintaining cruiserweight limits.

Shalom revealed that Okolie’s decision to move up was influenced by the impact of weight-cutting on his performances and health. With plans for a summer heavyweight bout in the works, Okolie aims to demonstrate his capabilities in the new division. The promoter also touched upon Okolie’s coaching situation, indicating that any changes, including his relationship with trainer SugarHill Steward, are decisions for Okolie to announce.
