WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames has voiced his concerns over Terence Crawford’s potential move up to 168 pounds to challenge Canelo Alvarez for his super middleweight titles. Adames believes such a leap could be "dangerous" for Crawford, not only in terms of losing the fight but also risking his life.
Adames questions the necessity of Crawford making this jump to super middleweight as he approaches his 37th birthday in September. The Nebraska native has never fought at 154, 160, or 168 pounds before, raising doubts about his readiness for such a significant step up. Crawford's upcoming bout against WBC junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3rd will be his first fight at 154 pounds. If he wins, he plans to bypass the 160-pound division and go straight to 168 to challenge Canelo, without any gradual acclimatization.

"I don’t think Crawford needs the Canelo fight right now. I think it’s kind of needless for him because his reputation has been cemented, and a punch from Canelo could not only be dangerous for him to lose the fight but also dangerous for his life. So, no need for Crawford to cross the line into such a heavy-weight class," Adames said on Sean Zittel’s YouTube channel.
Adames is set to defend his WBC middleweight title against Terrell Gausha this Saturday, June 15th, on the undercard of the Gervonta "Tank" Davis vs. Frank Martin event.
