Caoimhin Agyarko’s path to a world title opportunity has taken an unexpected turn after his final eliminator bout against Brandon Adams was cancelled at the last moment in Las Vegas. The fight was called off after Adams collapsed prior to Friday’s weigh-in and was taken to hospital.

Agyarko’s manager Paul Ready confirmed that the team will now push for a direct title shot, arguing that circumstances warrant immediate action from the IBF. “We’d love to jump in and fight Josh Kelly next and I’ll lobby that to the IBF… so that’s our position,” Ready said, adding that Adams’ health comes first but questioning whether he can safely make the 154-pound limit moving forward.

Ready also pointed to recent IBF decisions as precedent, referencing how Liam Paro was installed as mandatory challenger after a similar disruption earlier this year. “We’re strongly pushing that position now, but hopefully Caoimhin gets some luck and vindication,” he said, confirming that contact has already been made with Kelly’s promoters and IBF officials.

For Agyarko, the cancellation was a major setback after a full training camp geared toward what he described as his “American dream fight.” In a statement, the Belfast fighter said: “My dreams have been shattered… I was in the best shape of my life,” while apologising to fans and sponsors who had travelled to support him.

Despite the disappointment, Agyarko remains focused on his long-term goal. “I will be world champion one day,” he said. “My mind is bulletproof… I will not let this stop me chasing my dreams.”
