Boxing’s reigning superstar, Canelo Alvarez, set the internet ablaze as he announced his impending clash with Jermell Charlo on September 30th in Las Vegas. This marks the first face-off between undisputed champions in the four-belt era. Both fighters bring an impressive collection of titles to the ring, with Alvarez ruling the super middleweight division and Charlo dominating at 154 pounds. The anticipated showdown will fight for Alvarez’s undisputed championship at 168 pounds, according to ESPN.

Earlier plans for Alvarez to fight Jermall Charlo, Jermell’s twin and WBC champion at 160 pounds, took a turn when Jermall was deemed unavailable for the September bout. The Mexican sensation and future Hall of Famer, who recently penned a three-fight contract with PBC, swiftly pivoted towards Jermell Charlo, a formidable opponent who, despite never fighting above 154 pounds, poses a thrilling challenge.

Recent reports suggest that Jermall’s unavailability stems from his inactivity due to mental health, which has kept him out of the ring since his unanimous victory over Juan Macias Montiel in June 2021. However, the spotlight is now firmly on Jermell Charlo, the Houston-based boxer who clinched the undisputed 154-pound championship last May, knocking out Brian Castano in a nail-biting rematch.

Alvarez, meanwhile, prepares for this battle on the back of a unanimous-decision victory over John Ryder in his home country of Mexico. Despite a disappointing light heavyweight debut against Dmitry Bivol in May 2022, the resilient Alvarez bounced back, defeating rival Gennadiy Golovkin in a trilogy fight and landing a prestigious spot on Forbes’ Highest-Paid Athletes list.

In a delightful twist of fate, if Alvarez emerges victorious against Jermell, he might finally square off against Jermall next May, marking another unforgettable chapter in boxing history.
