WBA welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis has set his sights on a high-activity year in 2025, with plans to defend his title three times and pursue unification bouts against the division's other champions.
"My goal is to defend my WBA title at least three times and unify with all the other world champions," Stanionis said. "I want to prove I’m the best in the division, and I’m willing to face anyone to make that happen."
The 30-year-old Lithuanian has fought only three times since August 2021, most recently defeating Gabriel Maestre in a dominant title defense on May 4. His low activity has been attributed to promotional complications and a failed matchup against Vergil Ortiz Jr. in 2023. However, Stanionis is ready to change that narrative next year.
Despite being tied to Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), which has a limited event schedule, Stanionis remains optimistic. Potential unification bouts with IBF champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis, WBO titleholder Brian Norman Jr., or WBC champion Mario Barrios could elevate his career to new heights.
"Every day, I’m putting in the work here in Lithuania," Stanionis said. "The cold weather and tough conditions keep me sharp and focused. I’m preparing for a big fight announcement, and when the time comes, I’ll be ready to put on a show for the fans."
Stanionis hinted at a possible return on the March 1 card headlined by Gervonta "Tank" Davis and Lamont Roach, adding further intrigue to his plans for 2025. "Becoming a pound-for-pound world champion is my ultimate goal," he said. "2025 will be the year I take my place among the best fighters in the world."
