Bob Arum believes Jaron Ennis would need something special to beat Terence Crawford if the two ever met in the ring.
Ennis is coming off the biggest win of his career, stopping Xander Zayas in the seventh round to win the WBA and WBO super welterweight titles. The victory made “Boots” a unified champion in a second division and strengthened calls for him to chase the biggest names around 154lbs.
Crawford, however, remains a different level of challenge in Arum’s eyes. Although “Bud” retired in December, he is still being discussed as a possible opponent after ending his career with a unanimous decision win over Canelo Alvarez at 168lbs.
Arum told FightHype that Crawford’s ability to fight equally well from both stances is what separates him from other fighters. He pointed to Crawford’s dominant stoppage win over Errol Spence Jr in 2023 as the clearest example.
“Crawford is an awfully good fighter, and it would take a real wizard to beat him,” Arum said. “He fights equally well as a southpaw and a right-hander.”
Ennis has also shown comfort switching between orthodox and southpaw, but Arum’s view is clear: beating Crawford would require more than talent. It would require solving one of the smartest and most complete fighters of this era.
