Conor Benn has revealed that a significantly higher financial offer from Zuffa Boxing led to his decision to leave Matchroom Boxing.

Speaking about the move, Benn made it clear the difference in offers left little room for negotiation.

“Yes, it's drastic. It's money where you go, if you're a couple million out, yeah, alright, we'll sort something out. But it's not that.” He added: “It [the money] is not even close.”

The split also involved personal tensions, though Benn suggested the situation was influenced by emotions rather than a complete breakdown in relationships.

“It's more of an ego thing, of course, they understand, I know Eddie… Outside of business, we're friends, this is so public, it can hurt people's egos. That's it.”

Benn also reflected on his time away from the ring and the financial and personal pressures he faced.

“Nobody paid my legal bills… I paid the legal bills myself. Nobody called up to see if I had food on the table, I had to do that myself. Nobody will defend you when you're done and gone.”

Despite the high-profile move, Benn confirmed his agreement with Zuffa is currently limited.

“It is a one fight deal, after that I'm a free agent. I could do my own, I could go to Matchroom, stay with Zuffa… The big noise was worth the one-fight deal.”
