Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez has officially given up his WBC super flyweight title after confirming he will not return to 115lbs.
The WBC announced Tuesday that its super flyweight championship is now vacant, thanking Rodriguez for representing the belt before he moves forward at bantamweight. Rodriguez is set to challenge WBA bantamweight titleholder Antonio Vargas on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona.
Rodriguez is also expected to relinquish his Ring, WBA and WBO super flyweight titles, fully closing the chapter on his 115lbs run. If he beats Vargas, he will become a three-division world champion and take another step toward a possible future fight with Naoya Inoue.
Bam’s time at super flyweight was short but serious. He first won the WBC belt in 2022 by stepping in late and beating Carlos Cuadras, then later returned to the division and stopped Juan Francisco Estrada in 2024 to regain the WBC title and win The Ring championship.
He then unified further by stopping Phumelela Cafu and Fernando Martinez in 2025, adding the WBO and WBA belts. Now, instead of defending at 115, Rodriguez is chasing bigger goals at bantamweight - and possibly the biggest name in the lower weights.
