Gabe Rosado took to social media recently to share his view that Devin Haney made the “wrong choice” by picking Jose Ramirez for his May 2 comeback fight. In Rosado’s eyes, Haney, who’s been out of the ring for a year following his defeat to Ryan Garcia, should have sought an easier assignment rather than a determined ex-champion. “The dude is a former champion, he can punch, and he’s only 32,” Rosado told Fight Hub TV, pointing to the fact that Ramirez gave Arnold Barboza Jr. a tough outing last November despite losing by a narrow decision.
Rosado believes Haney and his father Bill scouted Ramirez and assumed he would be a soft target based on losses to Barboza and Josh Taylor. He argues, however, that Haney is making a mistake underestimating Ramirez, given the ex-champ’s high-level performances even in defeat. Still, Rosado insists his criticism stems from genuine concern over Haney’s choice of opponent after a long layoff, not from any ill will toward the fighter himself.

Rosado also called Haney out for his conduct since losing to Ryan Garcia, noting that he had previously favored Haney in that bout but now questions his lawsuit for “battery” and the decision to return on Garcia’s undercard. “I’m judging you on how you act after the loss,” Rosado said, voicing disappointment in how Haney has handled the aftermath. As for how the May 2 fight plays out, it remains to be seen if Haney’s team made a risky mistake or if they correctly assessed Ramirez’s vulnerabilities.
