The boxing world is rallying around Anthony Joshua after a devastating car accident in Nigeria last month that claimed the lives of two of his close friends.
According to his promoter Eddie Hearn, a comeback is far from guaranteed. Hearn explained that Joshua is still dealing with injuries from the crash and, more importantly, processing the emotional impact of the loss. He stressed that boxing conversations are not a priority right now, saying there is “no need” to discuss a return while Joshua focuses on healing.
Hearn revealed that although Joshua’s injuries are not expected to cause long-term problems, they will take time to fully recover. Because of that, there is no clear timeline for when Joshua could even consider going back into a training camp. For now, the former heavyweight champion is simply taking things day by day.
Joshua has been spotted training lightly in Dubai, working alongside MMA fighters and staying active in the gym. However, Hearn made it clear this should not be mistaken for preparation for a fight. Instead, the sessions are about mental health, routine, and recovery, not chasing another title shot.
“Boxing changed his life, so he’ll never leave the gym,” Hearn said, adding that what impressed him most was Joshua’s resilience as a person, not as a fighter.
