Andy Ruiz III has appeared in clips shared by himself and reposted by his father, and the resemblance to the former unified heavyweight champion is clear. At Artist Boxing Gym, the younger Ruiz already looks comfortable, showing fast hands, movement and early signs of a sharp left hook.
That punch carries history for the family. On June 1, 2019, Ruiz Jr. shocked Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden, dropping him four times before forcing a seventh-round stoppage in one of the biggest heavyweight upsets of the modern era.
The win changed Ruiz’s career and life, turning him from late replacement into unified heavyweight champion. His left hook was a major part of that night and helped create the moment that made him a boxing history-maker.
Now, seven years later, his son is beginning his own boxing journey. It is still far too early to know whether Andy III will follow his father into the professional ranks, but the early signs have caught attention.
