Andy Ruiz Jr. has signed a multi-year promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing as he prepares for another push in the heavyweight division.
Ruiz has fought only four times since his historic upset of Anthony Joshua in June 2019, when he became the first Mexican American heavyweight champion in boxing history. His reign ended later that year in the rematch, before wins over Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz and a majority draw with Jarrell Miller in August 2024.
Matchroom announced the signing on Wednesday and teased that Ruiz’s next fight will be confirmed in the coming days.
“Once you have everything and lost it all, you’re going to do whatever it takes to get that back,” Ruiz said. “I had to be broken to be reborn.”
The 36-year-old returns at a time when the heavyweight division is shifting, with three of the four major titles vacant after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished his belts last month.
Ruiz says he is mentally and physically stronger, hungry again, and ready to chase the belts he once held. “I’m here to make history again,” he said.
