Andy Cruz has some choice words for Keyshawn Davis - and they’re not just trash talk. The 2020 Olympic gold medalist, who beat Davis four times in the amateurs, is pulling for his rival to win the WBO lightweight title on February 14. Why? Because if Davis claims the belt from Denys Berinchyk, Cruz wants to be the one to grab it right back. He’s even joked about "my son" Davis being ready for a fifth lesson in the ring.

Davis, meanwhile, has set his sights on fighting Gervonta Davis if he becomes champion, which many observers believe might be a way to dodge a risky collision with Cruz. After all, their amateur encounters weren’t exactly close, and Cruz has seen little in Keyshawn's pro career - bouts against Nahir Albright and Miguel Madueno included - that leads him to believe he'd fare any better now.

Cruz says he’ll be ringside, at least mentally, on February 14, cheering on Davis against Berinchyk. He wants to see “his son” succeed - if only to reclaim the belt himself. Whether Davis will risk a fifth showdown with the Cuban star remains to be seen, but Cruz makes it clear he’s ready to deliver another beating if the opportunity finally arises.
