Tensions between Keyshawn Davis and Andy Cruz have resurfaced, with Cruz claiming his longtime rival is avoiding a fight.
Cruz, who defeated Davis four times in the amateurs, including the final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, didn’t hold back when discussing a potential rematch. “Truth is, my son doesn’t want anything to do with me,” Cruz said. “He always talks about me but he’ll always have excuses not to fight.”
Davis, now competing at higher weights, has been linked with moves toward the welterweight division and a possible clash with Devin Haney. Since winning and later losing his WBO lightweight title, he has shifted divisions and returned with a stoppage win over Jamaine Ortiz earlier this year.
A fight with Cruz has not been mentioned in those plans.
Cruz, meanwhile, is still establishing himself in the professional ranks. He holds a 6-1 record and most recently fell short in a title challenge against Raymond Muratalla.
While their amateur history gives the matchup clear context, the current trajectories of both fighters suggest the fight is unlikely in the immediate future.
