Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) announced today that he intends to face Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) in a September rematch, following his May 6th title defense against John Ryder.
Bivol defeated Canelo in a 12-round unanimous decision in May 2022, as the fight spiraled out of control in the latter half when Alvarez became exhausted. The judges at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas scored the Canelo-Bivol fight identically at 115-113, while many fans on social media gave Bivol a more decisive 118-110 victory.
It remains uncertain how Canelo plans to adjust his training to enhance his chances of beating Bivol, as significant improvements are necessary for a successful outcome. If the rematch with Bivol doesn’t happen, Canelo expressed interest in taking on his WBC 168-lb mandatory, David Benavidez.
“Sometimes you can knock out somebody, so no comparison. I’m always available to fight anybody, but you know my goal is to fight Bivol in September. If that fight is not happening, then we’ll see,” said Canelo in the interview.
