Anthony Joshua has issued his first public statement following the fatal car crash in Nigeria that injured him and claimed the lives of two close friends and members of his team, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele. The former two-time unified heavyweight champion shared an emotional Instagram post on Sunday, captioned “My Brother’s Keeper,” alongside images of himself sitting with his mother and family members, one holding a photograph of Ghami.

The crash occurred earlier this week on a major road near Lagos, when the vehicle carrying Joshua, Ghami and Ayodele struck a stationary truck. Ghami, Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele, one of his trainers, were pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua was taken to hospital with injuries but was discharged on Wednesday. Following his release, Joshua returned to the United Kingdom ahead of the funerals for Ghami and Ayodele.
On Friday, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged in relation to the crash and appeared at the Sagamu Magistrate Court. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
