Agit Kabayel may finally be on the brink of a full world title opportunity, with discussions expected between Turki Alalshikh and Oleksandr Usyk over a potential heavyweight clash in Germany later this year.
The unbeaten WBC interim champion has made no secret of his desire to face Usyk, especially after his emphatic stoppage of previously unbeaten Damian Knyba in January. That performance, strengthened his case for a shot at the division’s top prize.
Kabayel’s recent run has been built on patience and momentum. Over the past two years, he has delivered statement wins over Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez and Zhilei Zhang, positioning himself as one of the most in-form heavyweights outside of the current champions.
Plans are now shifting toward a potential stadium event in Germany, with Kabayel willing to wait rather than take an interim fight. He has indicated he will hold off on returning until there is clarity on Usyk’s next move.
According to promoter Frank Warren, the situation will soon reach a decision point - either Usyk vacates the WBC title or defends it against his mandatory challenger.
Usyk has previously outlined a three-fight plan before retirement, but Kabayel has publicly pushed back on being overlooked. If negotiations progress as expected, the German contender could secure the biggest fight of his career on home soil against one of boxing’s leading pound-for-pound fighters.
