British boxing sensation Adam Azim is gearing up for the biggest test of his career, as he prepares to face Ohara Davies on October 19 at London’s Copper Box Arena. The 22-year-old, who already holds the European junior-welterweight title, sees this fight as his gateway to the world stage, where he hopes to compete for world titles against the division's elite.
Azim, who has known Davies since his early days at the Peacock Gym in London, remains respectful of his opponent despite Davies’ unpredictable antics. "Look, I just respect everyone," said Azim. "I've known Ohara for a while, and I know how he comes across. He can bring out whatever he wants, but it changes nothing for me."
In his last outing, Davies was stopped in the first round by 41-year-old Ismael Barroso, but Azim isn’t reading too much into that performance. "In boxing, you can get caught early or late. I don’t take anything from that fight. I just focus on what I need to do," said Azim.
With only 11 professional fights under his belt, Azim has big ambitions to become the UK’s youngest world champion. A win over Davies, a former world-level contender, could catapult him into contention for major fights. "Ohara has been at world level, and this is a great way for me to step up and become a world-level fighter," Azim added.
Looking beyond the Davies fight, Azim has already set his sights on the division’s top names, including Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, and Regis Prograis. "I've always had the mindset that I will become a world champion at a really young age. These are the fights that will get me there," he said confidently.
