Junior Younan (21-0-1, 13 KOs) is set to headline at the Paramount Theatre in Huntington, New York, on March 22, taking on Ecuador’s Abel Mina (18-3-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight bout. Born in Brooklyn, Younan has built a respectable resume and says he’s been on the radar of other top contenders in the division – even though they may not acknowledge him publicly. Now, under Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, he’s hoping to showcase his growing skill set to force a meaningful fight against one of the bigger names at 168 pounds.
The 29-year-old Younan says he’s well prepared for the tough trial Mina may bring. He’s been training at high altitude in Colorado Springs and finds the conditioning aspect a huge benefit. Aware of how Mina handled himself in a draw against former title challenger Kamil Szeremeta last year, Younan knows he can’t afford to be complacent. Still, after back-to-back knockouts in 2024, plus a career spent honing his craft from childhood, he believes he has all the tools for another statement performance.
Having overcome a two-year layoff under his previous promotional outfit, Younan’s new partnership with Star Boxing has kept him active. After stopping 10-1 Dauren Yeleussinov on the Danny Garcia-Jose Benavidez Jr undercard in 2022, he tacked on two more TKO wins at Paramount Theatre last year. Should he prevail on March 22, Younan says he’d love to mix it up with the likes of Christian Mbilli, Kevin Lele Sadjo, Jaime Munguia, or even ex-IBF champion Caleb Plant. His promoter Joe DeGuardia also floated an all-Brooklyn showdown with Edgar Berlanga, insisting that Younan’s development warrants a marquee match.
