Fight Details

Mark your calendars, because Kenshiro Teraji (24-1, 15 KOs) and Seigo Yuri Akui (21-2-1, 11 KOs) are set to collide in a WBC/WBA flyweight world title unification at Tokyo’s iconic Ryōgoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena. It tops a three-fight championship card that will stream live on ESPN+ in the U.S. starting at 4 a.m. ET.

Teraji, a two-division champ originally known for his lengthy run at light flyweight, moved up in 2024 to snatch the vacant WBC flyweight belt from Cristofer Rosales via knockout. Meanwhile, Akui emerged as the WBA champion in January 2024 by dethroning longtime ruler Artem Dalakian, following that up with statement decision wins over Taku Kuwahara and Thananchai Charunphak. Now these two Japanese stars are set to unify titles and prove who’s the top flyweight in the country—maybe the entire division.

The night also features Anthony Olascuaga (8-1, 6 KOs) defending his WBO flyweight crown against former two-weight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi (19-2, 12 KOs). Olascuaga had a rough start at flyweight when he was stopped by Teraji in 2023, but he’s since rebounded spectacularly, capturing the vacant title last July and making a successful first defense in October. Kyoguchi, a onetime unified champion at light flyweight, chases glory as a three-division champ, eager to bounce back from a knockout loss to Teraji in 2023.

Rounding out the tripleheader, Shokichi Iwata (14-1, 11 KOs) puts his WBO light flyweight title on the line against Puerto Rican southpaw Rene Santiago (13-4, 9 KOs). Iwata earned the belt with a third-round stoppage of Jairo Noriega last fall, while Santiago hopes to cash in on his second title shot after dropping a decision to Jonathan Gonzalez in 2024.
