Felix Parrilla will face Jose Velasquez in the main event of the “Big Time Boxing Puerto Rico” card on March 19, with the vacant WBO Latino featherweight title on the line over ten rounds.
Parrilla, considered one of Puerto Rico’s promising prospects, sees the fight as an important step toward bigger opportunities in the division. He expressed gratitude to Universal Promotions and Salita Promotions for the chance to compete for the regional title and emphasized that his team has prepared thoroughly for the challenge. A victory, he believes, would move him closer to a future world title opportunity.
The co-main event will feature Abisael Cotto taking on Derlyn Hernandez for the WBO Global junior lightweight title over ten rounds. Fighting in front of his home fans adds extra motivation for Cotto, who described the bout as one of the biggest opportunities of his career. The Puerto Rican contender says his training camp has focused on refining his skills and correcting past mistakes ahead of the championship fight.
Another featured matchup will see San Juan favorite Kiria Tapia face Ayanna Vásquez in an eight-round super featherweight contest. Tapia described the bout as the most significant test of her career and said she has spent the training camp working closely with trainer Iván Calderón to sharpen her technique. Fighting in front of a hometown crowd at the Pedrín Zorrilla Coliseum adds further significance to the occasion.
Lightweight prospect Angel Carranza is also set to appear on the card, meeting Ezequiel Palaversic in an eight-round bout. Carranza stated that his team has focused on constant improvement during training as he continues to build momentum in the 135-pound division.
