The build-up to Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford will kick into gear with a special card on September 11 at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, headlined by Anthony Olascuaga’s WBO flyweight title defense against Puerto Rico’s Juan Carlos Camacho Jr.
Olascuaga (9-1, 6 KOs) has made two successful defenses since winning the belt in 2024, and the 26-year-old now fights on U.S. soil for the first time in three years. Camacho (19-1, 8 KOs), the WBO’s No. 1 contender, enters his first world title opportunity riding strong rankings with both the IBF and WBC.
The event will also launch Ring Magazine’s “The Underdog” series, designed to spotlight prospects and rising contenders. Among them is unbeaten junior lightweight Justin Viloria (9-0, 7 KOs), who faces Joshafat Ortiz (13-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Viloria, 21, is coming off a highlight-reel knockout in April, while Ortiz has bounced back with two wins after his lone defeat.
A junior middleweight clash between Jalil Hackett (9-1, 7 KOs) and Elijah Vines (8-0, 7 KOs) also promises fireworks. Hackett looks to rebound from his first career setback, while Vines aims to prove his power holds up under a step-up in opposition.
Also on the bill, Jamar Talley (3-0, 3 KOs) – a former Team USA standout who has been working in Crawford’s camp – meets veteran Isaiah Thompson (11-4-2, 10 KOs) in a six-round light heavyweight bout.
Rounding out the show, unbeaten junior featherweights Emiliano Alvarado (8-0, 5 KOs) and Juan Garcia (7-0, 2 KOs) put their perfect records on the line in a six-round showdown.
