Former WBO Africa junior featherweight champion Wasiru "Djatabi" Mohammed (13-0, 11 KOs) is set to face South Africa's Kaine Fourie (8-0-2, 6 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight clash on November 23 in Johannesburg. This marks the next step in Mohammed's road back to prominence after a long hiatus from boxing.
The 28-year-old Ghanaian returned to the ring in June following a four-and-a-half-year absence, where he impressed by stopping Michael Akramah Tetteh in five rounds of an eight-round super featherweight bout. A subsequent fight in Germany fell through due to visa issues, but Mohammed remained undeterred and continued training for his next opportunity.
Fourie, undefeated and holding the IBF Africa lightweight title, captured his belt in July with a stoppage victory over Siseko Makeleni. The South African will present a formidable challenge for Mohammed as both fighters put their unblemished records on the line.
Mohammed has reunited with his long-time manager, John Manfo, signing a new five-year deal earlier this year. Manfo emphasized that the goal remains the same: for Wasiru to become a world champion. "Training camp is going very well. We’re focused and ready to take on the toughest opponents anywhere," Manfo stated.
Mohammed, confident in his preparation, had a message for his fans. "I promise a knockout in this fight. I’m grateful to my manager, coach, team, and loyal fans for their support. This is just the beginning of bigger challenges and more titles to come."
