Max “Money” McIntyre will take the biggest step of his young career on July 10, when he faces Ukraine’s Bohdan Sobol for the WBA Inter-Continental super middleweight title at Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane.
McIntyre (10-0, 9 KOs) has quickly become one of Australia’s most exciting prospects, but Sobol (20-1-1, 10 KOs) represents a clear jump in level. The former Ukrainian champion brings experience, ambition and the chance to stop McIntyre’s rise in front of his hometown crowd.
“This is my chance to announce myself on the world stage,” McIntyre said. “I know Sobol is coming to win. He’s experienced, he’s dangerous, and he’s got plenty to fight for.”
Sobol is also treating the fight as a major career opportunity. A win in Australia could move him into the WBA rankings and put him closer to bigger fights at 168lbs. “For me, it’s an opportunity to make a statement,” Sobol said.
Tasman Fighters CEO Mick Francis called it “the biggest test of Max’s career,” pointing to Sobol’s amateur and professional background as exactly the type of challenge McIntyre now needs.
The event, titled The Money Show, will be promoted by Tasman Fighters in association with GoldStar Promotions and broadcast live on Stan Sport and UFC Fight Pass.
