Sean McComb will top GBM’s next Sheffield show when he defends his WBO European junior welterweight title against unbeaten Welshman Ben Crocker on September 27 at the Canon Medical Arena.
The Belfast southpaw, 32, sees the bout as a crucial step toward world title contention. McComb (17-2, 5 KOs) returned in June with a six-round decision over Alexis Nahuel Torres after more than a year out, and now meets Crocker (14-0-1, 2 KOs), who is looking to turn his unbeaten run into a breakout moment. GBM confirmed that the winner will be moved into the IBF’s top ten at 140 pounds.
McComb has spoken about his ‘clear pathway’ toward the IBF strap, even citing his 2015 amateur victory over current No. 3 contender Lindolfo Delgado as motivation for a potential eliminator in the near future. Still, he remains cautious about Crocker’s style. “He’s tall, rangy, a southpaw and likes to finish last in every exchange. I’ll figure it out and get the win,” McComb said.
Crocker, meanwhile, sees the opportunity as career-defining. “Sean’s a great fighter, slick and world level. Beating him will open so many doors. I’m going in there to get the job done, simple as that,” he said.
The undercard features British and Commonwealth junior featherweight champion Tysie Gallagher, who ends a year-long layoff against Ellie Hellewell.
