Floyd Mayweather Jr. has officially announced his next fight, confirming a June 27 showdown with Mike Zambidis in Athens, Greece, just days before his previously discussed clash with Mike Tyson was expected to take place.
The proposed bout between Mayweather and Tyson, which had been targeted for April 26 in the Congo, unraveled. A lack of broadcast partner and Tyson’s reported hand injury ultimately left the event without a clear path forward, ending hopes of the high-profile exhibition going ahead.
Instead, Mayweather has moved quickly to confirm a new opponent, describing the upcoming fight with Zambidis as an “all-out bout” in an official announcement. The contest will mark another crossover-style matchup, with Zambidis widely known for his success in kickboxing rather than professional boxing.
The June fight is set to act as a lead-in to an even bigger event later in the year, with Mayweather scheduled to face Manny Pacquiao in a rematch in September. That bout is expected to be broadcast on Netflix, but it's not yet confirmed.
