Lester Martinez (18-0, 15 KOs) and Joeshon James (9-0-2, 5 KOs) are hoping the third time’s the charm. Their super middleweight showdown has been rescheduled once again, this time for March 22 at the Orange Pavilion in San Bernardino, California, in a fight that will be streamed live on ProBox TV.
Martinez, from Guatemala, first had to withdraw from their February 8 date in San Antonio when both he and his team caught the flu. That came after a similar issue last September, when Martinez fell ill following the weigh-in. Meanwhile, Sacramento’s James, 26, has been out of action since outclassing Vaughn Alexander over eight rounds last February – a lone 2024 outing that left him waiting for Martinez for the rest of the year.
Fans took notice of James in October 2023 when he scored a first-round knockout of David Stevens, who was 13-0 at the time. Martinez, for his part, made a splash in June by winning a decision over former contender Carlos Gongora, snapping his run of five straight knockouts in what remains the biggest win of his career.
In addition to the headliner, there’s more action on tap: Jasmine Artiga (12-0-1, 6 KOs) will meet Regina Chavez (8-4-3, 1 KO) for the vacant WBA junior bantamweight title, giving fans in San Bernardino a solid undercard treat. If all goes well, Martinez and James will finally settle their business in the ring.
