Julio Cesar Martinez defeated Joel Cordova by TKO in the 6th round to retain his WBC flyweight title on June 26, 2021 at the Dome Alcalde in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Cordova started the fight well, using his height and reach advantage to keep Martinez at bay. However, Martinez gradually started to find his range and began to land some heavy punches. In the fifth round, Martinez caught Cordova with a powerful left hook that stunned him. Cordova was able to recover, but he was clearly hurt.
In the sixth round, Martinez came out aggressive and immediately went on the attack. He landed a series of punches that put Cordova down. Cordova got up, but he was clearly in trouble. Martinez continued to pour it on and eventually forced the referee to stop the fight.
