Michael “Lone Wolf” Magnesi (22-1, 13 KOs) is gearing up for the first defense of his WBC Silver super featherweight world title against an undefeated Nike “La Promesa” Theran (18-0, 12 KOs) in Rome, Italy.
Magnesi, who hails from Palestrina, Rome, won the championship in March 2023 against Argentinian Ayrton Gimenez. He now prepares to defend his title against Theran, a 26-year-old Colombian who trains in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Nike Theran, managed by Harry Polanco Peralta, is a former WBC Latino champion. He won the title against Osvaldo Cabrera Santana in just two rounds but hasn’t fought in 11 months. “It will be a fundamental step and a chariot of fire for Michael,” said Alessandra Branco, Magnesi’s promoter, wife, and boss. “A win will mean he reaches the top 5 in the WBC ranking and then can aim for the Green and Gold belt, currently held by American O’Shaquie Foster.”
Before settling on Theran as an opponent, the team contacted at least eight other boxers from the WBC ratings. However, none agreed to fight Magnesi. Theran was chosen for his solid record, undefeated status, and heavy-punching ability. “Considering Michael’s hitting skills, these are ideal characteristics to bring the match to our battlefield,” added Alessandra Branco.
