Brandon Jones has been handed the biggest opportunity of his professional career, with the unbeaten light heavyweight set to face Kyle Davies for the vacant Commonwealth title on July 18 at Kings Hall in Stoke.
The matchup brings together two rising undefeated fighters with real punching power. Jones, 26, enters at 11-0 with four stoppages, while Davies, 25, is 12-0 with eight knockouts.
Jones returned to boxing in 2025 after a two-year break and reunited with his former amateur coach Wayne Elcock. The original plan had been to guide him toward titles at super middleweight, but Elcock says this chance was too good to turn down.
“It’s all about opportunities,” Elcock said. “I still feel Brandon can do super middle, but opportunities like this don’t come up very often.”
Davies will have home advantage and enters with the stronger knockout record, making Jones the underdog for the first time in his career. Elcock, however, believes his fighter has the experience and ability to upset the script.
“I wouldn’t take a fight like this if I didn’t think he was going to win it,” Elcock said. “You haven’t seen the best of Brandon.”
Elcock also made clear that Davies is not being underestimated, especially with eight stoppages in 12 fights. But he believes Jones is ready for the step up.
“He’s been a slow-burner and this can catapult him to a new level,” Elcock said. “If Brandon sticks to the plan, I have no doubt he’ll win.”
