Harlem Eubank will return to his hometown of Brighton on November 21 when he faces Canada’s Josh Wagner at the Brighton Centre. The bout headlines a Wasserman Boxing card and marks Eubank’s first fight since July.
Eubank (21-1, 9 KOs) was handed a technical decision loss that night but insists he proved he belongs at world level. Determined to bounce back, he now looks to make a statement against Wagner (19-1, 10 KOs), a hard-hitting super lightweight from Orangeville, Ontario. “The critics couldn’t wait to stick the boot in afterwards, but mark my words, I will be world champion,” said Eubank. “After I handle business on November 21 against Josh Wagner, I’m coming straight for the title.”
Eubank, cousin of middleweight star Chris Eubank Jr., will fight just six days after his relative’s rematch with Conor Benn in London. Confident of delivering another explosive home performance, he added, “Everyone has seen what happens when I fight in Brighton - I produce clinical performances and get the job done inside the distance.”
Wagner, meanwhile, is unfazed by the hometown challenge. “I watched Eubank’s last fight, and he clearly didn’t go in there to win,” the Canadian said. “His career is on the ropes, and he desperately needs a win to get back on track, but he’s picked the wrong opponent for that. I’m relentless, I train to knock people out, and on November 21 Eubank will fall.”
Promoter Kalle Sauerland expects Eubank to use the fight to reignite momentum. “Never, ever, write off a Eubank,” Sauerland said. “Harlem can’t wait to meet Wagner in the middle of the ring and put on a performance that sets the record straight. Victory over the wild man Wagner puts him right in the picture for a title shot next year.”
