The European light heavyweight championship, currently vacant, is contested in a gala event held in Point-Sainte-Maxence, a small town just north of Paris. This championship bout will feature a clash between French fighters Daniel Blenda Dos Santos (21-1, 10 KOs) and Thomas Faure (24-5-1, 2 KOs). The winner of this bout is scheduled to face Britain's Shakan Pitters (19-2, 6 KOs) in the fall.
Originally, Shakan Pitters was set to compete for the title against Dos Santos. However, due to a minor eye injury that has hindered his training, Pitters has temporarily stepped aside. The European Boxing Union (EBU) has granted permission for Dos Santos to fight Faure for the title while Pitters recovers, ensuring that the title fight can proceed without further delay.
This change is a setback for Spain's Silver EBU champion, Carlos Lamela, who will now have to wait for his shot at the European title. Given the current schedule, it appears unlikely that Lamela will be able to compete for the championship before 2025. Nevertheless, Lamela remains ready for any unexpected turns in his boxing career.
