Owen Cooper (11-1, 4 KOs) will get his shot at domestic glory on February 28 when he challenges unbeaten Constantin Ursu (14-0, 6 KOs) for the vacant British welterweight title in Derby, England. The bout will also see Ursu defend his Commonwealth belt, with DAZN set to broadcast the fight live.
Ursu, 25, enters the contest with a perfect record and growing momentum. The Plymouth southpaw claimed the Commonwealth title last March by stopping Eithan James in seven rounds, then showed his durability and composure with a 12-round unanimous decision over Ryan Amos in November to secure his first defense.
Cooper, also 25, arrives with a reputation for grit and persistence. The Worcester fighter rebounded strongly from his first a stoppage loss to Ekow Essuman in July 2024 by outpointing Chris Kongo over 10 rounds last May. Cooper is a former English and Midlands Area champion and is widely regarded as one of the division’s most reliable action fighters.
The British title clash headlines a Queensberry-promoted card at the Valiant Live, which also features two notable 10-round contests. Olympian Luke McCormack continues his professional development against experienced Kane Gardner at junior welterweight, while unbeaten middleweight Ben Fail faces seasoned operator Mason Cartwright in a stern test.
