Kim Clavel (16-0, 3 KOs) faces Jessica Nery Plata (28-2, 3 KOs) in a junior flyweight unification fight in Canada.
Originally set on the first of December, the match was postponed because Clavel became ill with the flu. She is already fully recovered, as seen by her intense training sessions, and she is well aware of the caliber of her upcoming opponent.
Early in 2020, Clavel, a nurse who switched to fighting, went back to her previous line of work to assist with the coronavirus outbreak. She has gone 5-0 since most notably winning the title in July 2022 by defeating Yesenia Gomez (19-6, 6 KOs).
At the same time, Plata has only had one defeat since 2015 and won the WBA title by defeating Yesica Yolanda Bopp (37-3, 17 KOs), who had previously held the crown for more than ten years.
Plata is presently ranked No. 1 in the light flyweight division and No. 6 in the world pound-for-pound by the independent website Boxrec.com. At 108 pounds, Clavel is ranked third, and No. 21 in all divisions.
This will be Kim Clavel's second time competing in the main event of a show held at a significant amphitheater in Quebec. The first time occurred in August 2021 at Stade IGA against Maria Vargas (14-4, 1 KOs).
