The WBA will crown a new interim junior welterweight champion on December 13, when Kevin “Alfa” Brown faces Cletus Seldin at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida. The title bout headlines a Boxlab Promotions card, streaming live on the company’s YouTube channel as part of the WBA’s annual convention.
The belt became vacant after Italy’s Alessandro Riguccini stopped Jesus Correa in January and later relinquished the title. For Brown (8-0, 3 KOs), a Cuban standout now based in Las Vegas, the opportunity marks the biggest moment of his young professional career.* “This is the fight I’ve been waiting for,”* Brown said. “Seldin is a tough, experienced warrior, but I believe my skills, my speed, and my mindset will prove I’m ready for the world stage.”
The 31-year-old southpaw turned professional in 2022 and has yet to face an opponent with a losing record. His most notable victory came 14 months ago, a unanimous decision over John Bauza. Seldin (29-1, 23 KOs), eight years older and vastly more experienced, enters on an eight-fight winning streak that includes stoppages and close decisions over solid competition.
“This is what I live for, big fights and big lights,” said Seldin, a Brooklyn native managed by Elvis Grant. “Brown’s slick, but he hasn’t been in with someone like me. I bring pressure every second of every round, and on December 13, I’m bringing that hammer down hard.”
