Celebrate Father's Day weekend with an exciting pro-am boxing show at the newly renovated Cross Insurance Arena on Saturday. The main event showcases light-heavyweight Kendrick Ball Jr. (22-1-3, 13 KOs) defending his North American title against Las Vegas's Britton Norwood (13-5-1, 10 KOs). This marks the return of professional boxing to the venue since Maine’s Joey Gamache's last appearance in December 1994, where he vied for the WBA World Lightweight championship.
Tickets are available at the Cross Insurance Arena, 1 Civic Center Square, Portland.
Cross Insurance Arena's general manager, Michael LoConte, expressed his enthusiasm:
"The reception for the fights has been great. We've had extensive media coverage, and there’s a significant buzz about this event. We're hoping for a sellout crowd."
The card also includes a well-matched 6-round female lightweight bout between Austin’s Destiny Jones (5-2, 2 KOs) and New York’s Feifilmai Faiva (5-0-1, 3 KOs). Portland’s Casey Streeter (11-2-1, 4 KOs) will defend his New England super welterweight title against Connecticut’s Jimmy Williams (18-14-2, 6 KOs), while his teammate, multi-time New England amateur champion Wade Faria, makes his professional debut. Maine’s favorite boxer, West Fork’s Brandon Berry, will appear in his 37th professional bout, ensuring an exciting atmosphere for all his fans.
A special highlight of the night features Kansas City’s Marco Romero, one of the youngest National Amateur Champions to turn pro. At just 18, Romero, who has won back-to-back National Golden Gloves and USA Open Championships, will face the tough Jonathan Gary (2-1, 0 KOs) of Oklahoma City in his professional debut.
Manager and coach John Brown expressed confidence in his protégé:
"Marco is the real deal. He’s fought the best amateurs in the country, and I’m happy to have him face a real opponent in his debut. This young man will be a world champion."
