Former world champion Amir Khan and Dr. Ezekiel Adamu will promote a boxing event in Lagos, Nigeria on May 1, headlined by a cruiserweight clash between Ezra Arenyeka and Godday Appah at the Federal Palace Hotel.
Arenyeka enters the bout with a record of 15-2 (12 KOs), while fellow power puncher Appah brings a 14-2 (13 KOs) record into the matchup. The card is promoted by Balmoral Group Promotions in association with AK Promotions.
Elsewhere on the show, Elvis “The Soldier” Ahorgah (15-4, 13 KOs) returns to Africa after fights in Britain against Callum Simpson and Tyler Denny, as he faces Newcastle’s outspoken Joe Laws (15-4, 5 KOs). Michael McKinson (27-2, 4 KOs), who has gone 6-1 since his 2022 loss to Vergil Ortiz Jr., will also appear on the card against undefeated Algerian Mohammad Sahnoun (8-0, 6 KOs).
The event will feature several African prospects, including unbeaten southpaw Raheem Animashaun (19-0, 12 KOs) against Emmanuel Amos (22-10-1, 13 KOs), while Nigeria’s national middleweight champion Rasheed Adeyemo (16-2, 9 KOs) meets Nicolaus Michael Mdoe (15-8-2, 11 KOs). Nigerian hopeful Basit Adebayo (9-0-1, 4 KOs) will also face Tanzania’s Loren Japhet (20-9-3, 4 KOs).
UK-based Ghanaian welterweight Samuel Antwi (18-2, 8 KOs) takes on Paul Kamanga (24-3, 13 KOs), while a crossover bout between social media personalities Carter Efe and Portable is expected to draw attention thanks to their combined following of around 10 million fans.
“I’ve been in big fights around the globe, but the passion in Africa is something special,” said Khan. “These fighters have heart, skill and fire – now they get to show it on the biggest stage. Lagos is going to be electric.”
